OnType

Hold a key, speak, release to type. Cloud speed, with a free private on-device fallback.

What it does

Hold a key and speak; words stream in as they are recognised and land at your cursor when you let go. It works in any text field — code editors, chat apps, browsers. Tap instead of holding to compose longer text that is cleaned up afterwards. The Cloud Engine is the fast path; on-device transcription is free and keeps audio on your Mac.

  • Dictate into any app

Messages, documents, commit messages and code comments, without switching to a dictation window.

  • Prompt AI tools by voice

Speak a long prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or Raycast instead of typing it.

  • Draft longer writing

Talk freely and get a tidy transcript back — filler removed and punctuation added — or a translation.
